This week in an open letter, the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU), called on the Government of Canada to reject the Port of Vancouver’s Roberts Bank Terminal 2 (RBT2) expansion project and consider better alternatives.
The ILWU cited many concerns about RBT2, including:
- It flies in the face of landmark environmental achievements and goals.
- It goes against concerns raised by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
- It is not in the public interest of Canadians.
- Sliding timelines for construction.
- Ballooning cost.
- Resulting job losses.
- A flawed business case.
